Turbos Back!!

Had a bit of a suprise today when my turbo arrived. Must say CRT have done an amazing job looks brand spanking new!

The suprise was I think its a hybrid...

EDIT:

After contacting CRT to get my full spec turns out I have-

. New turbine housing with enlarged & ported wastegate
. New Standard Turbine wheel
. Uprated thrust bearing & stepped gap seals
. Billet K06 compressor wheel with coldside machined to suit
. New KKK actuator

Machined coldside with what looks like an rs6 compressor wheel

Really! I never had a problem with getting hold of them, Ask for Mark Arnald he is the guy I dealt with. You can email him directly at.. [email protected]

As for the kit it was £125 with the uprated thrust collar.
You have to really know what you are looking for when rebuilding a turbo though as the tollerances are so fine.. TO ME everything seemed fine after I rebuilt mine but after sending it to CRT for balancing I found out that the turbine wheel had been scrubbing on the houseing, it was only a tiny amount but he assured me that the turbo would not function correctly being like this. There was also some other minor defects with mine.

Just something to keep in mind mate.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info James, i shall email Mark shortly. I will be giving my Turbo & rebuild kit to a mate of mine who rebuilds turbos for a living so all should go well :drive1:

Progress ko4 hybrid seat Ibiza is that a first? remember bill saying about a ko4 hybrid s3. Running silly power. Let's hope you get this up and running ok mate.

Im not sure actually mate I think there may be one already, Im going to have to put a very tame map on it untill I get rods I think.
Should be interesting though!

Decided im going to change the rods now to be safe! Stripped the engine down today to see if I have any other internal problems and it all looks great. Bores are great no major scratches and no lip what so ever. Pistons look fine just need a scrub.

For peace of mind I am also going to replace-

- Cambelt
- Waterpump
- All the gaskets
- Valve stem oil seals
- Deglaze the bores
- Clean up and relap the valves
- Clean up the pistons and fit new rings

I am also going to get some green 440 injectors and sell my LCR ones as I dont think they will be sufficient.

Cant think of anything else so heres a few pics!

Blimey James I didn't realise you were doing all that work! I loved doing my internals. Great engines to work on too :D. Worth doing pistons at the same time?? I know it may seem OTT but you get addicted to power and it would be an arse to take it all apart again in the future to big turbo it ;)

Ghetto axel stands ay! Nothing needed, just litrally unbolt it from underneth and mount it on top.. just need too drill a hole in the firewall to run the cables through, It will all make sense when you take it all off.

Yeah really easy engines too work on had it stripped in a couple of hours. I havent got the money for pistons at the moment plus mine look in really good condition & they are forged mahle piston standard and are apparently good for big bhp.
None of it was planned I asked CRT to just rebuild my turbo too standard and the sent it back hybridized.. I only payed for a standard rebuild and I got a good deal on that too so I didnt mind.
Just means I have to save up more money for the rods, injectors ect. which is going to delay it getting finished a month or so :(

O well it will all be worth it eventually!

Chinese turbine housing.
*check the threads are full depth vs the bolts which will go into them*
*check what pressure the actuator arm start to open at* - with std KKK actuator it would be 5psi, which will not be sufficient to cope with the "overported" wastegate. It will blow open.

Inconsistent as ever!
