Updating the inbuilt Mib2 Satnav / Mib2 tricks and Mib1

Hi I was having problems doing the update (Mib2) I downloaded the Europe 1 update and copied the Overall file into the new EEC directory but it wouldn't work. The problem was I did this on my desktop PC and when I looked at the files they were classified as a Nero Discspan Compilation ! I don't think my car infotainment system runs Nero lol. I did everything again on my laptop (the download and work around) did the long press reset in the car and went to navigation. It took about 10 seconds and the maps were there!
So guys make sure the NEW files are nds and your computer hasn't defaulted them to something else when you unpack the zip files.
Thanks for your help and patience Tell

I'm not home at the minute hence the Irish flag will allow those with mib1 with success to cross check. Gapping looks a bit big on the system name.

As long as you stick to notepad for edits. 7zip etc

Probably not 7zip to unpack ?. 7zip is recommended one by Vag. The inbuilt file manager one definitely messes up mib3 files. Also slow 🤣.

Do not update the infotainment system, we ship every system on the latest available software. The map files stay on the SD card, which stays inside the infotainment unit
That's sorted then... mib2 standard.

I tried the procedure multiple times and it didn’t work, then I guessed I must have an MIB 2 High unit since nothing was working.

Tried the procedure for MIB 2 Standard again and the result was the same with the only difference that it started loading in the beginning and then gave up again. (Tried both the OVERALL.NDS from the original card and the one uploaded on the forum)

I had someone update their 7zip when they were having problems once. That fixed it for them since Vag do change their process.

@ilovezed that one is very much for @East Yorkshire Retrofits since your unit is a mib2 standard as confirmed but not running standard firmware, why you were told not to update it. It's been modified to work with any SD card not a CID based one as I understand it and it won't be fussy about the overall.nds so will work with updates without the workaround stages.

Probably a presentation issue of the maps, directories etc to it, one back to our friends in East Yorkshire. Perhaps they can send you an SD card pre set up for it ?... to get you working.

You were right about the gapping, not sure how that happened as I copied and pasted, might have hit space at some point. Anyway its still saying 'loading navigation' forever when I put the card in.

Sorry for waisting your time. I had already contacted them before that, but we could not come to a solution, so I decided to try on the forum.

I hope I havent come off as offensive and I am sorry if I did. I just want to get this over with finally 😂

Please please please, can someone who has updated their MIB1 maps and have it working paste me a copy of their DBinfo file so I can be sure what the format should look like? I have compared the info file from the downloaded P106_N60S3MIBS2_EU_NT file to the one on my MIB1 card and the spacing is different on the part numbers and system name. I want to know what it should look like to get it working, thanks.

If you look at @Daz3d posts, he did post up some of his files subsequently which you can check. Original map file etc. When someone else was having issues and had lost their original copy.... that's if they didn't take it of mega to get some space back.

We also placed a trick where you can go back to previous releases, use that then update on that. For that you need to place where your release is against others. So @Daz3d release would work if it was after yours then. Test then use the workaround. That got the other one working.

Does this help? Its from my backup files.
Thanks for that, it gives me a reference to try tomorrow. What's confusing is the downloaded file in P106_N60S3MIBS2_EU_NT (8V0060866S) looks like this

PartNumber1="8V0060866H"
PartNumber="8V0060866H"
ApplicationSoftwareVersionNumber="0106"
SystemName=" ECE 2023 "

with that space between 2023 and the quotation marks. Where as my original looks like

PartNumber1="8V0060866H "
PartNumber2="5G0919866AH"
PartNumber3="5E0051236 "
PartNumber4="5F0060884BG"
PartNumber="8V0060866H "
ApplicationSoftwareVersionNumber="0075"
SystemName=" ECE 2018/2019"

with no spaces, while you have spaces after all your part numbers and the systemName 2014.

I'm just trying to figure out why its not loading the update maps for me as Tell referenced me to check the spaces a few days back.

I did read those posts a few days back but haven't used the idea because I didn't think going back a few releases might help. How do I check if that release is after mine, is it the version number and year?

Well we are onto the revised and updated June 2025 mib2 standard release now. I think it updating for a time slip in the processing a few years back. This may well be the November 2026 release since it's sequenced as ECE 2026.

DONT DONT delete your existing maps without doing the workaround on a Seat, else you will be saying help... more on that below.

Thanks to the Ateca German board for that (2510 is the new serial release) + MartiniB of Briskoda board filling in RoW files and Skoda links (when he does):

The files are interchangeable between Seat, VW and Škoda from:

Nb. the all European map has been tested and works, the link above suggested there was an error....

Reproduced here !

Workaround

Using a PC or a MAC ?

PC: 7 Zip is the preferred VW tool, other unzip tool including those built into Windows, can cause difficulties.

7 zip can be obtained from

https://www.7-zip.org/download.html

MAC: VW instructions

"ATTENTION

If the map update is performed using the Apple® OS X operating system you may find that
Discover Media does not recognise the map material or displays it incorrectly. This is due to
a lack of compatibility between the “7 zip” program and the OS-X operating system. In
addition, the OS-X operating system has a tendency to create hidden additional files on
external data media. We therefore recommend that OS X users use the “Keka” unzipping
program. We also recommend using the “CleanMyDrive” program to remove any hidden files."

If a MAC is used CleanMyDrive is run against the SD card after the maps are copied across to the SD card.

Having identified which unzipping tool is required and special Mac SD card cleaning required... free to proceed.

Steps:

  1. Download the latest standard MIB2 maps
  2. on the infotainment go to settings, safely remove, sd1 card
  3. remove sd1 card from glove box slot
  4. long press on the on / off to reboot it a couple of times
  5. insert sd card in to computer
  6. copy and paste all contents to a directory on your computer
  7. Delete tye contents of the SD card, (don't forget to push the card lock mechanism to off) (ditto in a MAC)
  8. Copy the new downloaded map version to the SD card (after unzipping it)
  9. Replace /maps/EEC/EEC_WLD/OVERALL.NDS on the SD CARD with the one from the original SD card
  10. eject the sd card (on a MAC run CleanMyDrive on the SD card - then eject), click to lock
  11. Inserted the card into the card 1 slot in glove box whilst infotainment is off
  12. power on and go to navigation

The unit should then boot up into navigation. Note it does take a little longer first time round. If it refuses to boot up, press the volume button forcing a reboot, hold down until the unit reboots. If this fails it will be issues on the overall.nds file / copy issues. Revisit the process. Failing this restore the back up.

You will also need to pick up any POIs that you show on the screen since these will be dropped after a map update. Petrol stations, parking location etc.

Do not format the card in anything other than Fat32. The unit runs QNX so will not correctly see the SD card if it is not in Fat32 / cluster size gets tinkered with in a reformat. The CID is not deleted in a format that is outside of the area that can be addressed but reformatting has been known to corrupt the card.

If you do lose the NDF file than it's in the resource of how to sort it out. See:
