I have a petrol Cupra rather than a diesel, but I noticed my exhaust seemed much louder after I had the downpipe and sports cat fitted. Also, I went to Ultimate Dubs with Ash (Ibiza 130 TDi) and his car sounds great, just a straight thru pipe from turbo back. No drone whilst cruising on the motorway but when he puts his foot down it makes a deep rumble, sounds great :D

I don't know why people pay so much for a Milltek cat-back for diesels tbh, the best sounding ones all have a mufflerectomy  It'd be cheaper to get a complete system custom made probably lol. I know of a couple of people who bought Magnex cat-back exhausts for their Ibizas and the first thing they did was go get the backbox removed and replaced with a straight bit of pipe. Millteks just seem to be far too expensive for diesels imo. I LOVE the sound of my petrol though ;)

If you read the beginning of this thread that was what he asked and he got quoted alot for a custom and only paid a bit more for the Milltek in the end so not that cheap.

cheers aimez.....in fact got quoted more than the milltek for a custom made system...and for the straight pipe from cat-back i got quoted min 200!!....i think the deal i got was good, and im sure it will look ace, however from reading what other people have said, im a bit sceptical about getting it now

Funny everyone was all enthusiastic at first! Plus alot of petrol owners think diesel owners are silly getting exhaust systems! Listen to diesel owners advice as they have the car at the end of the day. Alot of people seem a bit funny that I don't want the full system again what is the point I am not a turbo head planning massive engine mods so what would be the point. If this deal was on no way I'd have bought a Milltek as yes they are expensive. I'm not expecting anything amazing out of it at the end of the day but I am not getting it for power gains.

yea same. dont plan on going hybrid or anything like that, wanted a better noise from my car and also a better look, fair enough i could of got a new tail pipe for 50-60 quid, but the straight pipe would of cost me about the same as the milltek...and its great quality and a great deal....im really trying to convince myself hahahaha

oh well, we will see when it arrives

I see what you mean, but from what I've heard from people I know with exhausts on their diesels, they've been disappointed with the sound from the cat-back system they bought and ended up getting the backbox cut out. I'm not trying to cause arguments, just telling my experiences.

ive got a full turbo back non-res, de-cat milltek on myn (FR TDi) and in short, its mint! lol, do it do it, btw i do wanna go big turbo lol

fair enough bit late in the day now thou! Well if we are that disappointed we can sell it on.

sorry, i work a full day lol, it everyone to there own, but ive personally think it sounds good if you go for the full system, i dont think you will see masive gains performance/sound if you go for a cat-back system, really it worth the extra for the de-cat and downpipe, plus im getting more MPG and the car pulls alot better.

Nope coz your original one needs cutting off unless you take the rear axle out so you'll have nothing to put back on if you sell it on lol.

see this thread, post 150, I know Andy, he only lives 5mins from me and the difference between magnex cat back and then having no backbox is huge

You pay your money and make your choice at the end of the day, I'm sure you'll all be happy with your exhausts. If not, you can get the backbox removed for more noise and still say you have a Milltek exhaust lol :)

No I mean we ordered them last week! I work a full long day too!
For you this sounds great as you want more power and are going to go big turbo but as said several times now I am not so is not worth it for me. I appreciate advice but it seems to me some people are giving advice as if to themselves and what they want out of the exhaust.

only a joke bout the work

i know what you mean about the advice, but it comes down to what your happy with, your own tastes, i was only trying to help based on my own experiance.

Oh sorry!
If I was going to do the same plans as you I would take your advice for sure as we would want the same things but in this case we don't want the same things form an exhaust system.

Is getting the back box removed legal? I would not want it really noisy hate that chav sounds ans would piss me off!

dont have to be sorry,

removing back box is legal, and i really hate the chav sounds aswell, milltek quiet at cruise, you just get huge turbo whistle when reving it (not often in a TDI), removing back box is a good way to go, and its cheaper to.

Ah well I will see. Not gonna faff around with it just get it fitted then see if I like or not. At the end of the day I deserve it been a crap few months for me. Will obviously report back.

fair enough, hope your happy with it. last time i treated myself i got an FR (and an empty wallet lol)

wow...bit of a discussion now!

as i stated at the start, i wanted a better sound from the car...wasnt really worried about performance gains but wanted an oval tailpipe like the cupra tail pipe.

The straight pipe would of been an option if there had been some locally who would do it for cheap...however the two or three local custom exhaust centres where charging a lot, they also offered making me a custom system (not milltek) for more than what awesome where doing the milltek cat-back for....the choice seemed obvious to me then...but from reading a few expereinces on here it seems, i may have been better off going for straight through pipe...however if i want to go further i could always get a de-cat and a downpipe later on, im sure and im hoping that it will look great and will also sound better than what i already have on there.
