Since this whole thing has kicked off my give-a-feck-ometer is still reading zero.

If (and I very much doubt this is the case) my car is recalled and ends up not being the same spec I bought, including running costs then I'll hand it back and I'm sure VAG will have some sort of replacement/compensation program in place - IF it really gets that bad. TBH getting rid of my Leon would be a blessing. I'd still probably buy another VW, Audi or Skoda though.

Are people so naive as to think that manufacturers aren't playing with numbers to hit emissions conformity or hit the same numbers as their competitors, diesel or petrol?!

There is another element to think about.

Car tax (VED) wont be retrospectively effected, in addition HMRC won't retrospectively revalorise how much tax is due on any car benefit, as that is based on the co2 rating on the V5

HOWEVER;

If this whole affair meant that all affected cars are subsequently re-tested had to be issued with a new V5 with a higher co2 rating, then both car tax & any benefit in kind tax due on the cars going forward MAY rise.

If that would be the case, who'd have to pay for that.....VAG??

Eventually VAG will pay

BUT

Knowing our government and how it works - I believe individual bills will be sent to the owners for the extra owed - and it will be up to the owners to claim it back from VAG.

The SEAT Ireland website states that the TDI 150 and 184 are both EU6 compliant, and all EU6 compliant engines are immune to this problem.

And the diesels are still available on the Irish site for purchase, as new cars are not included in this issue. I'm surprised that any SEAT website have removed diesel from sale, as they are just including the new cars in the problem by default if they do that.

See link here.

I was told to contact Seat customer services, 0500 222 222, they went though contact details etc, I asked what would happen if HP was detuned to meet emission levels, therefore not the spec of car I purchased, also asked now the car has depreciated faster than what I expected and again not the car I purchased, was told there would be some sort of compensation in place............what that means I don't know.

I don't think SEAT will have done it willingly - my guess is that VW are going to need as many engines and parts as they can get hold of so they have restricted the diesel offerings.

You can rest easy with that thought. Not even the government would be so harsh as to penalise any poor innocent drivers caught up in this fiasco. VW however will probably get their pants pulled down and fines far exceeding lost RFL income applied if the measured CO2 results are included in the data manipulation.

I haven't got a car effected by this but if I did I would definitely not get any recall done as it will only effect power and economy. What about thoes with a remap? That would get wiped over. I don't buy cars based on emissions anyway that's bottom of my priorities.

My Leon 184 is a 2013 63 plate and is euro 5. Why is my euro 5 20 quid to tax with lower co2 that a euro 6 at 30 quid with higher emissions ? Euro 6 113 g/km yet euro 5 only 109 g/km ...............

Seems a bit dodgy I think

My mate has an 11 plate audi 2.0 tdi which has been remapped

He has already been back for a software update!

He told them it was remapped and they did the update but kept his remap

Bit of good news for some of you

Just checked my car I think I have an EA288 engine judging by the wiki posted earlier and my DPF is horizontal and my engine code is CKFC (2015 FR 2.0TDI 150ps DSG) and therefore not affected. Although I'm sure we will all be tarred with the cheater device brush!
