Wouldnt a 4x4 conversion be an expensive potentially troublesome addition to a car designed to have front drive?

A diff would certainly be worthwhile :)

There's about 4 cars I know of pushing this level of power, and one goes way beyond it. He knows who he is, but doesn't like to shout about it :p. The suspension is coil overs, and are quite highly rated... Cant wait for the stiffer rebound rates and 30mm drop...

:p

How come you choose the bilstiens over the KW's?

Yeah, myself and John at VagTech did mull over the options. He was confident that if all the parts down to the last screw frm the 3's drivetrain were used, it would be trouble free - ish. Lol, not very confident then?

We shelved the idea as being to costly, but not impossible. The diff is much more viable, and is being looked into (Avaliability, cost for part, and fitting). I'll know by Wednesday.

Dam car needs it pretty badly IMO!

Yer, I would have thought 4x4 conversion to be costly although, for sure, probably a worthwhile addition. Its not something that would be wise to do on a car thats not supposed to have for various reasons, including insurance for one. Also, what about the tranmission tunnel, rear diff etc?

A quaiffe or peolquin on the stock gearbox would be the next best thing though.....

Lol, I do some 20K a year in the Leon, track focused springs wont do my backside any favours! I went with the bilistein, as I have seen good reviews on how easilly you can adjust dampening and rebound stiffness, and also ride height.

We'll see, no one else here has chosen them then?

It's great that other members want fast Cupra's too. When you get yours, dump £3K on it, and it's as fast as a Vauxhall VXR8 for jut £23K!!! Excellent BHP/£ ratio, and the Leon looks so dam stealthy too! We could form an elite sect of 340BHP+ Cupra's.

How about an even more Elite 350 BHP+ club, I know of two instant members;)

Regarding the figures, the thing that I have noticed from various graphs from cars with a similar set up to RCS's car is that the graphs are not that peaky. The other thing I have noticed is that boost is around 1.5Bar which on the scale of things is not that much higher than remapped K03s and K04 cars on the 1.8T engine.

For sure, it would be possible to induce a higher, more peaky, figure by hoying the boost right up, but even with a pump to ensure fuel flow is there to stop the ECU pulling back boost to compensate for a lean mix, an uprated intercooler to ensure things dont overheat and retard things, the torque figure is still going to peak and fall quicker than it would with lower boost. In other words, a higher figure may not mean a faster car on the road.

Regarding performance on the road however, I would be fairly confident that a fettled K04 TFSi Cupra would hold its own against a GT28RS equipped 1.8T Leon ;)

Hmmm, you lucky Leon owners get the R32 front stoppers, which do haul down the speed better than the stock Edition 30 ones. Maybe an upgrade of pads and grooved rotors would help that little extra for the Leon?

Yeah they would be nice, but I've yet to find a manufacturer that makes them for the Mk5 R32....

Thanks for all the positive comments peeps, but... Unfortunatly the Leon is feeling a little sick (See my othert thread in the MK2 section) after the mod's yesterday. No one can see whats up with it :(

Regarding the brakes that were mentioned earlier, I have found the stock brakes are more then able to bring things to a halt quickly. No need to upgrade those for road use at least...

Stick with 2WD! The 4WD system is very occasionally useful but I would say it slightly spoils the drive, adds weight, reduces MPG further, increases transmission loss etc..... You'd be better off stripping the Cupra and getting a 2nd hand S3 if you go that route surely?!?

Thanks for listing the cost and your comments about each item, it gives the rest of us something to think about with regards to future mods.

Your car sounds great and I hope you get past your starting problem quickly.

It might be worth getting the mods to make the first part of this a sticky to help people get an idea of what can be achieved.

How are you finding the K1 mate? Got your eye on any mods for it yet, or gonna enjoy and get used to the speed before you fettle?
