Am I correct in sayig that the DBilas is the generally accepted best alternative by SCN members?

Where can i source Dbilas at best price on da net?

It is the best one available for the Cupra at the moment but it does not really have much competition unless you fancy having a cone filter stuck down behind the bumper where air wont get to it that easily. All the other kits need to be modified to go on the Cupra, but some of them if adapted, may well be better than the Dbilas.

Available from Regal Autosport. but very expensive at approx £350.

oucchhh... that price knocked me out! i agree... my problem with the position of the Forge cone is that it gets wet... i opened up the airvent for better airflow.

Will have to do a combo then of both Forge and Dbilas!

As earlier in the thread you cannot tell if the discs are fitted the right way around just by looking at the groves on the outside of the disc ;)
These groves are just there to clean the face of the pads.
Because they are vented the way the vents or vanes are positioned and cut out or cast in the middle of the disc will govern which way around they go for cooling
Also stated earlier in the thread people were saying this is the order to mod your car with brakes last
Brakes SHOULD be one of the first things to be done before any big power increase is done to your motor !
Cheers

Not so urgent on a Cupra when it runs 345mm brakes as standard. The thing that would be an improvement is the feel. Stock Cupra's brakes are a bit over servoed so they tend to have a wooly feel to them. But they stop the car just fine.

What he said^^^^^^

terry you've obviously never been in the MK2 Leon Cupra
The brakes are very very good, I would say that unless your tracking the car the OEM brakes are more than good enough. The car is the same weight as the LCR. A LCR with 2 piece discs at 330MM has great stopping power. The OEM discs are the ~same size as the Porsche Turbo one that people fit to the LCR. These are awesome!!!

I know the std brakes are good i have had a Leon Cupra R ;)
But if you are re-mapping the car by another 60/100bhp it will push the brakes to there limit if you are going the give the car a good thrashing.
Brembo's are a good brake system but they are let down by poor quality soft discs that warp very easy (unless two piece type) if you do not allow a few miles of easy driving to let them cool down.
Cheers

Well i've spent 18 months with over 300 bhp never even felt the need to upgrade brakes, I mean standard brakes are made to cope with a car that capable of 150mph. :D

That will be why I swapped the discs and pads on my Leon R then. ;)

Mk5 Golf R32 brakes on the Mk2 Cupra. If the discs start to warp I'll replace them with something better. But they haven't yet.

Folks should also be aware that suspension provides upto 60% of a cars overall stopping power.

That's my next and most important consideration before considering expensive brake calipers.

I am going to stick my neck out here and say that I have never been swallowed by the need to upgrade brakes on my current car or my last car which had 312mm discs as standard and vented rear discs.

For sure, I agree that you need better brakes for stopping from speed, and more speed is available when you have more power. However the Cupra brakes are pretty substantial and very good although I echo Z's comments above about them being over assisted.

However, a standard MK2 Leon Cupra has a 153mph top speed according to the SEAT web site.

There has been reports of tuned Cupras with approx 320bhp making 165mph on a GPS, and one picture I saw at 168mph from a tuned Edition 30. I am unsure if anyone with a full monty Cupra (ie Revo Stage 2 with all the bits) has had it all out, but one would assume that with 350-360bhp, circa 170mph may be possible.

What I am trying to say is that the only benefit bigger brakes gives is if you drive at over the book speed of 153mph or as mentioned above, track/race the car. I know that 150mph is not something I visit very often in my car, infact only one time since I got it.

Hi Zboyd
Your spot on with the suspension
I dont know about the Leon but with the Evo i have, it has a good suspension setup, But you can have it re-tracked to a more aggressive fast road setup ;)
I know that with the new 2ltr fsi Turbo engine you can get a 405bhp tuning package at a cost of 13k or 450bhp for 25k :-o
Who on here has the most BHP & Torque in there leon ?
Cheers

Wicked 380bhp ;)
I bet that pulls like a train ?
Probably 0-60 around 5 secs
0-100 in 10 secs
Is that with just std turbo with re-map, exhaust, induction kit or do you have to uprate rods & internals etc ?
Cheers

Nice motor Dan
Dan can i ask how much the work and parts cost to get the 380 horse's ? (dont worry i understand if you dont want to say)
As i said earlier i have seen post's on Audi TT forum where it cost's about 13k for 405bhp conversion and 25k for the 450 one.
I had a A4DTM 2ltr fsi Turbo and Revo used that to look at the software so they could do a map for the 2ltr fsi ;)
The car once re-mapped was a real stormer much smoother than the 1.8T units i have had tuned before in Seat's & Audi's.
Cheers

RCS2K4,

Did you fit the Forge Twintercooler yourself? Ive just bought mine of my mate who has the edition 30. If so was it easy?

Canny lookin spec u got there!! :)
Thanks :)

I did not install it myself though. I paid Vagech to carry out the install, and it took approx 3 hours to complete.

You need to drill the crash bar along the front of the rad to hang the cooler from, and then trim the various plastic bits that get in the way - both mounted to the car, and on the front bumper.

Way to complicated for me to do, but it depends on how good you are with a drill, screwdriver and an electric knife?
